O Quy Ho Pass - One Of The Four Great Passes

O Quy Ho Pass or Hoang Lien Son Pass is the pass on Highway 4D, bordering the boundary between Lao Cai and Lai Chau provinces, Vietnam, belongs to O Quy Ho ward, Sapa town.

The pass crosses the Hoang Lien Son range with the top of the pass is also near the border between the two provinces, also known in the locality as Sky Gate. Sun World - Fansipan peak is also located on this road. However, visitors to Northwest Vietnam often know the name O Quy Ho pass.

O Quy Ho pass has a long zigzag pass, of which about 2/3 of the distance is in the territory of Tam Duong, Lai Chau; 1/3 is located in the Sa Pa, Lao Cai side. This is probably a long pass in the mountainous Northwest of Vietnam, with a length of nearly 50 km, longer than Pha Din pass (32 km long, located at the border of Son La and Dien provinces. Bien) or Khau Pha pass (nearly 40 km, in Yen Bai, I will write about Khau Pha later). The height, ruggedness, and length of O Quy Ho make the pass known as the "king of the pass in the Northwest", perhaps the longest pass in Vietnam up to now.

Among the "Four Great Passes" of Vietnam, perhaps only O Quy Ho and Khau Pha are the fog almost all year, many days the fog is so heavy that it feels like drizzle. The good thing is that as long as you cross the top of O Quy to the side of Tam Duong district, Lai Chau province, the weather changes almost immediately. If the sky is still foggy at the top of the Pass (where O Quy Ho restaurant is located), go about 5-7km to Tam Duong, the sky clears and you will see the soft, silk-like winding pass I went to Mu Cang Chai from Sapa, so passing O Quy Ho was the only option, which is that the whole road is very beautiful.

I am not very impressed with O Quy Ho in addition to the length and the chilly rain. The restaurant - Cafe on the top is a bit messy, not "distracted", dreaming like a cafe on Quan Ba Sky Gate or Panorama on Ma Pi Leng.
